High Quality AMPCO® Beryllium-Containing Copper Alloys

AMPCOLOY® 83
AMPCOLOY® 83 is a 2 % beryllium copper alloy with exceptionally high hardness and strength, combined with good electrical and thermal conductivity.

Applications:
- Plastic moulding sector - injection moulds and tools e.g. mould inserts, chill plates, cooling pins and neck rings or bottom plates for blow moulds of plastic bottles
- Welding dies for the flash-butt welding in cold-rolling mills
- Special applications in aviation, deep sea water connections
- Parts for electrical components

AMPCOLOY® 91 / AMPCOLOY® 95
High hardness and high heat resistance coupled with good electrical and thermal conductivity.

Applications:
- Electrodes, electrode holders for the resistance welding sector
- Crosswire welding of reinforcing mesh
- Welding discs for stainless steel, Monel and nickel alloys, flash welding dies
- Moulds for non-ferrous metal casting, plunger tips for cold chamber die casting, parts for high pressure die casting machines
- Suitable for applications with high thermal loads and parts at risk from thermal cracking

High Quality AMPCO® Beryllium-Free Copper Alloys

AMPCOLOY® 940
AMPCOLOY® 940 is a patented alloy which meets the demands of users of the RWMA class 3 alloys without beryllium.  A superb combination of high thermal and electrical conductivity, with high hardness and strength.  Good corrosion and abrasion resistance.  Beryllium free.

Applications:
- Plastic injection mould tools and inserts and injection-nozzles and cooling pins
- Electrode holders and seam welding shafts
- Spot welding electrodes, seam welding discs, projection and butt welding dies, principally for stainless steels and Monel
- Plunger tips for cold chamber die casting machines and moulds for low pressure die casting machines
- Chill moulds for casting brass and certain bronzes, and moulds for non-ferrous metal casting

AMPCOLOY® 944
An exceptional combination of higher thermal conductivity, tensile strength, and hardness for high strength applications that require rapid heat removal.  Beryllium free.

AMPCOLOY® 944 exhibits excellent machining properties, retains the inherent corrosion resistance of copper, possesses superb wear resistance and is easily polishable to a high finish.

Applications:
- Plastic injection mould tools and inserts and injection-nozzles and cooling pins, blow moulds, transforming moulds
- Electrode holders and seam welding shafts

AMPCOLOY® 972
AMPCOLOY® 972 is a precipitation hardening copper-base alloy.  In the heat treated condition, this alloy retains the mechanical properties together with a good ductility in the range of 300-500°C.  Very high electrical and thermal conductivity and high mechanical properties are attributes of this versatile alloy, with good hardness and high resistance to softening.

Applications:
- Welding wheels, electrodes, holder and shanks for resistance welding machines
- Clamps for butt and flash welding
- Electrode caps for the automotive industry
- Tong arms for welding robots

High Quality AMPCO Nickel-Aluminium Bronzes

AMPCO® 45
Specification: AMS 4640, ASTM B.150

A high strength alloy with mechanical properties beyond the range of commercial nickel-aluminium bronzes due to a special manufacturing process employed by Ampco Metal.

AMPCO® 45 is recommended for heavy-duty high-loaded mechanical and corrosive applications.  Applications that involve abrasive wear, friction, mechanical deformationor chemical erosion such as aircraft bearings/bushings, pump and marine shafts, wear rings, valve spindles and seats or machine tool parts, will benefit from using AMPCO® 45.

The spark-resistance properties of this alloy make it suitable for the production of safety tools and machine tool components used in explosive environments.

AMPCO® M4
Specification: AMS 4590 for extrusions

A truly exceptional alloy that has been heat-treated utilising the mar-annealing process to produce a material with mechanical properties and a strength-weight ratio far exceeding the range of commercial aluminium bronzes.

The high hardness of AMPCO® M4 coupled with superb resistance to deformation and abrasion, makes this material ideal for applications involving heavy dynamic loads, abrasive wear and frictional forces.  It is rapidly growing in use where higher mechanical properties at elevated temperatures together with corrosion-resistant properties are required.

In particular, AMPCO® M4 is used extensively in commercial and military aircraft landing gear assemblies (gears in retractable landing assemblies, engine spacer bearings), tube manipulation tools (bending dies - shoes and mandrels), and for parts operating under load in adverse environments, such as the conditions experienced in off-shore drilling situations.
